The Uncanny Valley is a theory which is really interesting because it's becoming more and more relevant the further technology advances. The basic principle behind the theory is that the closer something artificial comes to being realistic, the closer it comes to a dropoff in the realism/familiary correlation.
In simpler terms: once something artificial gets a certain amount of realistic, humans will find it completely repulsive.
Examples of this theory includes the films The Polar Express and Beowulf, along with frighteningly realistic robots; things look so real that it's creepy. I once knew a girl who had an aversion to mannequins for this reason: they resembled humans so much (well, to her at least) that she was utterly discomforted by them.
So now, in the age where CG characters can "act" alongside humans, does it mean that humans will have to get over this aversion? Is there any way to conquer it? Is it a simple matter of repeating "It's not real!" over and over in your brain?
Guess we'll have to see.
